New Business:

Our quarterly newsletter is in progress and will be mailed out next week.  Look for it.

Tim Cory of Delta Engineering Systems gave a presentation on AutoCAD Land Development Solutions desktop.  Tim gave us a brief overview of the evolution of this product.  The Softdesk Civil Survey package and   Autodesk  AEC division are fully integrated with AutoCAD Map 3 for this desktop packages.

Overview:  original design digital terrain model drawing from surface contours can use external files; dtm, databases.   Use terrain model explorer to read contour data and build surface: watershed, roadway, etc.  The profile of original ground at the centerline of right-of-way can define finished ground and place station notations.  Cross sections can define asphalt base, gutter, shoulders, etc.  Use a template to cut the cross section from the new geometry.  Quantities of earth to move and volumes of cut and fill are easily extracted.  The profile can be redefined to balance the volumes of cut and fill.  Mass haul diagram; volume by station and how far to move the dirt can be extracted from this program.  Grading plans with pads, drainage, daylight points, slopes can all be set using different colors to show cut and fill areas.  This can be pasted into the original ground model.   3D faces can be created, rotated, and shaded for a fly through view.   The Survey Module can communicate with more than 60 types of survey instruments and is seamlessly integrated with AutoCAD Land Development software.

Autodesk supports upgrades form Map to Land Development desktop.

Tim also gave a short demo on the Autodesk Architectural desktop, very impressive.  Civil and Architectural packages can be merged using the dual licence option at a reduced rate.  See Tim for details.

Next meeting is January 13, 1999.
